FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

PSAC Announces New Partnership with Women Building Futures

Calgary, AB (July 3, 2019) –The Petroleum Services Association of Canada (PSAC) is pleased to announce a new three-year scholarship partnership with Women Building Futures (WBF). The scholarship will result from funds raised through the PSAC Working Energy Golf Classic, an annual fundraiser and premier event celebrating Canadian energy and the contributions of the oilfield services sector to the Canadian economy.

Through this new partnership, over the course of three years, an $18,000 contribution will be made from PSAC’s Education Fund to WBF’s Student Awards Program. The WBF Student Awards Program helps remove barriers faced by students and applicants by supporting the cost of living expenses, books, safety gear and tools. It is expected that between 3 to 12 women will be supported in their career journey annually.

Since 1998, WBF has been the leader in preparing women for economically prosperous careers in industries where women have historically been under-represented. WBF has supported women through industry recognized training in the skilled trades, maintenance and driving industries. In addition to its many training programs, WBF has an indigenous relations team that focuses on community building and supporting local women. They’ve also built partnerships with industry employers that share WBF values of safety, commitment to career progression and champion a diverse and inclusive workforce for all.

“Many of WBF’s students are under-employed, work multiple jobs, and have difficulty making ends meet. Not only will PSAC’s contribution provide immediate financial relief, but it will ultimately enable many women to pursue careers in non-traditional fields, many of which exist in the oilfield services sector,” said Gary Mar, President & CEO of PSAC.

“PSAC’s Education Fund is funded through the generous contributions of the Canadian oilfield services community – a key objective of this Fund is to create awareness of and help develop a potential long-term labour pool for the upstream service, supply and manufacturing sector of the oil and gas industry. While our existing partnerships with various technical schools further this cause, we acknowledge that women are underrepresented in many areas of our industry. In looking for a new partner, it only made sense to support the industry’s inclusion efforts through supporting WBF, an established organization with the expertise and brand in this area.”

“At WBF, we transform women’s lives. Women that come to WBF are often underemployed; and it is hard for anyone, especially if you are underemployed, to take 3 – 17 weeks out of your life to prepare for a career. Student awards help remove that barrier and make economic prosperity a reality for more women,” commented Jacqueline Andersen, Director, Stakeholder Relations, WBF.
