Significant changes are being made to how traffic will be handled on roads in northern BC. These changes go into effect on October 1, 2009. The new Standard came into effect across Canada on January 1, 2007. An Application Guide for the Standard has been published by the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) and is available for viewing and downloading under "Publications" at www.ccmta.ca Alberta Transportation has provided a list of organizations in Alberta that have informed the department that they offer an Hours of Service training course that can be viewed at www.transportation.alberta.ca/Content/docType276/Production/hours_of_service_training.pdf. Cargo Securement Best Practice PSAC and the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC) have developed a Best Practice for the transportation of equipment used in the oil and gas industry and compliance with the North American Cargo Securement Standard. The Best Practice deals with issues related to the transportation of: production equipment, coil tubing equipment, vacuum trucks, drilling and service rig tubulars, drilling rigs, and tubular products.The Best Practice is available for viewing and downloading by PSAC members in the "Members Only" section of the PSAC web site.
Bulk Haulers The Bulk Hauler's Course is designed to provide baseline/introductory training for operators of large trucks and/or tractor-trailer units that haul bulk cargo, usually in liquid form, that require an enclosed cargo containment tank/module to move the commodity. The General Oilfield Driving Improvement (GODI) course will be a prerequisite. Topics include:
Escort Vehicle The Escort Vehicle course is designed to provide the operators of escort vehicles with basic knowledge of how to operate an escort vehicle in a safe manner and what their responsibilities are when providing escort vehicle services. The course will set a standard for those wishing to provide escort vehicle services for the oil and gas industry.
Vacuum Truck The Vacuum Truck Course is designed to provide baseline/introductory training for operators of large trucks and/or tractor-trailer units that have a large sealed containment tank/module as part of the configuration of the vehicle, and include a powerful suction pump for removal of liquids, sand and hydrocarbons. The General Oilfield Driving Improvement (GODI) course will be a prerequisite. Topics include:

Transportation of Dangerous Goods – Permits for Equivalent Level of Safety PSAC has three different types of Permits - two issued by Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation, and one issued by Transport Canada, covering the transportation of various types of dangerous goods. The Permits are available to PSAC members only. These Permits exempt the holder from some of the requirements for documentation under Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations.
