Essential Skills TrainingOne of the issues identified by PSAC's Board of Directors was the need for more training in essential skills for the industry. Essential skills include those related to math, reading and document use, which are fundamental to increased productivity, safety and staff retention. The Petroleum Human Resources Council of Canada undertook research in the area of essential skills to determine what already exists and what may need to be developed specific to the petroleum industry. As a result of the research findings, the Council's next step is to help industry fill the essential skills gap by developing an Essential Skills Employer Toolkit that provides links to current resources, tools and success stories for industry use.
