David Yager, Chair

Chairman & CEO, HSE Integrated Ltd. 

David Yager has been involved in the oil and gas industry since 1970. He began his career working on the drilling rigs, rose to the position of derrickman, serviced oilfield equipment and downhole tools, trained as a fishing tool operator, and worked in Calgary sales for a company that is now part of Weatherford. He and a partner purchased an oilfield trade magazine called The Roughneck in 1979. Beginning with JCP Forewest Industries Ltd. in 1987, Mr. Yager helped create Tesco through the merger of three public companies and an equity financing in 1993. In 1994, he incorporated a predecessor company of Integrated Production Services Ltd (IPS) that was merged into IPS in 2000. Mr. Yager is currently the Chairman, CEO of HSE Integrated Ltd., a public integrated industrial safety services company. Mr. Yager has done significant freelance commentary on the petroleum industry and business and political issues for CBC Radio, CBC Television and other electronic media outlets. He has been an editorial columnist for the Calgary Herald and Calgary Sun newspapers and is currently an editorial columnist for Oilweek. Mr. Yager is an accomplished public speaker and does his own investor relations material and communication for public companies.

 

Brian Coston, First Vice-Chair

Manager - Drilling Fluids, Canamara United Supply (a Division of Diversity Technologies Corp.) 

Brian Coston has 31 years of experience in the drilling fluid Industry, starting in Ft. St. John, BC and working his way to Calgary in the early 80s. Mr. Coston has spent time on projects in the Arctic, the USA and Argentina as well as extensive experience in the WCSB. He is currently manager of the Drilling Fluids Division of Canamara United Supply, the wholesale supplier of chemicals to the mud industry. He has been an active member of PSAC since 1994, working on such projects as the PSAC mud schools, the PSAC mud list, and the G-50 review. Born and raised in Calgary, Mr. Coston provides a unique perspective on the Canadian oil industry.

 

Mike Edmonds, Second Vice-Chair

President, Import Tool Corp. Ltd.

Mike Edmonds is the President of Import Tool Corp., a Canadian oilfield service company that was established in 1953. He earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta. Mr. Edmonds has served on a variety of not for profit and community related boards and organizations throughout his career.

 

Lucas Mezzano, Third Vice-Chair

Technical Sales Manager, LRI Perforating Systems Inc. 

Lucas Mezzano has over twelve years of commercial and operational experience related to the upstream oil and gas service industry, both in Canada and internationally. After moving to Canada seven years ago, he was responsible for oilfield services within a multinational pipe manufacturing company and is now the head of Canadian sales for a well established domestic manufacturer of completions equipment. Mr. Mezzano is very active in the oil and gas community, not only with PSAC, but also with SPE, CHOA and the Petroleum Society of Canada.



Al Huehn, Past Chair

President & CEO, Topco Oilsite Products Ltd. 

Al Huehn has spent his entire career in the petroleum services industry and has been with Topco since 1994. Mr. Huehn has a B.Sc. and a Financial Management Certificate from Queen's University, as well as a Teaching Certificate from Stratford Teachers' College. He is also President and CEO of the Western Group of Companies, Chairman of the Board of Regents of Concordia University College and a member of two corporate Boards. 


 

Roger Soucy

President, Petroleum Services Association of Canada 

Roger Soucy began his oil and gas industry career in 1978 in a sales capacity for an oilfield service company. A year later he joined the staff of the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC). There, he quickly became the Manager of the Service and Supply Division. In 1981, when the service and supply companies within the CAODC decided to create the Petroleum Services Association of Canada (PSAC), Mr. Soucy was chosen to head the new entity. Under Mr. Soucy's direction, PSAC has grown from a two-person organization to an association with a staff of eleven and a membership of more than 270 companies, employing 68,000 people and generating 80 per cent of the business volume in the petroleum service industry. Mr. Soucy also serves as Chair of three Alberta Apprenticeship Occupational Committees and a Director of Enform.

 


 

Blane Charles, Director

Senior Advisor, Champion Technologies Ltd.

Blane Charles has over 35 years of experience working in the upstream petroleum sector. With the exception of four years in the California oil industry, his career has been focused on the WCSB. Most of those years have been with Champion Technologies which is a leading chemical supplier to the oil industry. His experience ranges from field-based sales, sales management and technical services management to General Manager and Vice President and Business Unit Leader of Champion's Canadian operation for several years. Mr. Charles has recently taken a role as Senior Advisor for Champion Technologies with participation in industry trade associations as a major focus.



Lloyd Stewart, Director

Vice President, Doran Stewart Oilfield Services

Lloyd Stewart has over 30 years experience in the oil & gas industry with a strong background in operations project execution. Mr. Stewart's career began in 1978 when he started working for Flint Energy Services. He worked various positions and locations in North America, ending his career with Flint Energy Services in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the fall of 2006 as Vice President of U.S. operations. Since then, Mr. Stewart returned to Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, bringing his expertise to the family owned business.


Wally Dumont, Director

Vice President Operations, Eveready Energy Services

Wally Dumont has been involved in the oil and gas industry since 1978, originally starting with Chem Wash Industries in Devon, AB providing down hole acidizing, chemical and industrial cleaning services. Born and still residing in Edmonton, his career has involved both domestic and international business. He has been with Eveready Energy Services since 1995 as Vice President Operations and continues to oversee the Specialty Industrial Operations for the company.

 

Ken Willson, Director

Vice President/General Manager, Guardian, A ShawCor Company

Ken Willson has spent 35 years in a variety of management roles in the service sector of the Canadian oilpatch since graduating in 1972 from the U of A with a B. Sc. in Metallurgical Engineering. Mr. Willson is currently Vice President and General Manager of Guardian, A Shawcor Company, an OCTG inspection and repair company with operations in Canada, Mexico and Cuba. In addition to the PSAC Board, he has been on the Board of the IPIA, the International Pipe Inspectors Association, for the past 6 years and currently holds the position of Vice-Chair.

 

John Gorman, Director

Director - Vice President, Halliburton Group Canada

John Gorman is the Vice President of Halliburton Canada. He began his career in the oil and gas industry as a geologist with Canadian Hunter straight out of the University of Saskatchewan. He joined Halliburton in 1991 to work offshore Newfoundland and Nova Scotia as an MWD Engineer / Geologist and has been with Halliburton in increasing roles of responsibility ever since. Prior to assuming his latest role, Mr. Gorman has served as the Canadian Manager of Sperry Drilling Services and Director of Business Development for Halliburton Canada.

 

Gord McCormack, Director

President & CEO, Hyduke Energy Services 

Gordon McCormack is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer and a director of Hyduke Energy Services Inc., and has been with the company since 2002. Mr. McCormack holds a Chartered Accountant designation and has a Bachelor of Commerce undergraduate degree from the University of Alberta. He is also a director of McCoy Corporation.

 

Ray Mills, Director

CEO & Founder, KUDU Industries Inc. 

Ray Mills, with his father Robert Mills, founded KUDU Industries Inc. in 1989. His career began as a Sales & Service Manager, and he became the Chief Executive Officer in 2003. Over the years, Mr. Mills has implemented agressive growth strategies and lean manufacturing while promoting an entrepreneurial spirit within KUDU. Under his direction, KUDU received several awards for manufacturing practices.



Stephen Lockwood, Director

Co-CEO & President, Mullen Group Ltd.

Stephen Lockwood, Q.C., joined the Mullen organization in September 2004 as President and Co-CEO. and on July 1, 2005 became a Director of Mullen. Prior to joining Mullen, Mr. Lockwood practiced law with the law firm Carscallen Lockwood LLP, a law firm he established in 1988. Mr. Lockwood graduated from the University of Alberta in 1978 with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and from the University of Calgary in 1981 with a Bachelors of Law Degree.

 

Scott Hauck, Director

President - Distribution Services - Canada, National Oilwell Varco-Distribution Services Group

Scott Hauck has 27 years of oilfield supply experience in the exploration, production and drilling market. He has held several senior and VP level positions within National Oilwell Varco, including materials management and international operations. Mr. Hauck is currently President of the Distribution Services Group in Canada.

 

Derek Normore, Director

President, Schlumberger Canada Ltd.

Derek Normore has been President of Schlumberger Canada limited since October, 2006.  He joined Schlumberger as a Field Engineer in December 1980 and during his 28 years with Schlumberger has held various managerial positions in Canada, the USA, South America, Africa, and Europe.  He is a Canadian, born and raised in Newfoundland where he graduated from the College of the North Atlantic majoring in Civil Engineering Technology and where he also attended Memorial University of Newfoundland & Labrador.   Immediately prior to his current position, Mr. Normore was General Manager of Schlumberger's Stonehouse Technology Centre, located in the UK, where he was responsible for the engineering, development, manufacture and sustaining of all Schlumberger Drilling systems and downhole power systems.

 

Ron Birnie-Brown, Director

Regional Sales & Marketing Manager, Varel International Canada 

Ron Birnie-Browne was most recently Vice President - Smith International Canada, Ltd and is now with Varel International Canada. He has been involved in the Oil and Gas industry since 1981. Mr. Birnie-Browne has been with Smith International Inc. for 11 years and held various management positions in the Far East, Middle East, Europe and Canada. Prior to that, he was with another major service company for 10 years. A graduate of the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Petroleum Technology, Mr. Birnie-Browne also holds a BSc. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Alberta and an MBA from Athabasca University. Mr. Birnie-Browne has been a registered Professional Engineer with APEGGA since 1994 and a Certified Engineering Technologist with ASET since 1989.
